Located about twenty minutes northeast of Houma, this bayou town has the advantage of being, like Des Allemands, a stopover on the way to Houma, New Iberia and Lafayette. Its name comes from the Race family who had a large plantation on Bayou Lafourche called Raceland. The community has long been at the heart of Louisiana's sugar industry, notably with the Raceland Raw Sugar Corporation which has a crushing capacity of 15,000 tons per day. Finally, Raceland is home to Louisiana's Cajun Bayou Tourism office, which covers all of Lafourche Parish.
