The Guadalupe Valley, 30 minutes from Ensenada, is a trendy destination for wine and food enthusiasts. Many culinary and wine projects are created each year in this valley, which is surrounded by hills and has a cool climate in the evenings. The place is charming and pleasant, a green break for those who have just returned from a dive in the southern Californian desert. As far as wine making is concerned, the region enjoys a great deal of freedom of interpretation: the processes are not limited by controlled appellations of origin. In the small wineries, experimentation is the rule. There are about 90 wineries in the area, ranging from large industrial operations that distribute their wines to supermarkets throughout the country to small family-owned wineries. Not all of them are open to visitors, but many of them open their doors during the week or on weekends.
