Located on the shores of the Laguna de Cuitzeo, only 34 km from Morelia, it is a beautiful little village known for, among other things, the former convent of Agustín de Santa María Magdalena (16th century), the site of Tres Cerritos, its handicrafts and the thermal waters of the surrounding area. For those looking for splendour and grandeur, a detour to Cuitzeo may not be totally satisfying, although it is only a short detour for those travelling from Morelia to Patzcuaro. On the other hand, it is an interesting junction between the states of Guanajuato (where one reaches the archaeological areas of Plazuelas and Peralta, then San Miguel de Allende) and Michoacán.
