Jamay, at the extreme east of the lagoon, is in front of the mouth of the Rio Lerma, who is born near the city of Mexico. Its small town centre, marked by the ruins of the church destroyed by an earthquake in the th century, acknowledges its strange monument erected on the main square: dedicated to Pope Pius IX, it evokes more an oriental or Hindu monument. Jamay is known to the people of Guadalajara to be a major gastronomic destination; It moves to charales (small fried fish), bagre in birria (catfish) or carpa de (carp eggs). Most of the restaurants are located along the lake outside the village, with the Restaurant Bar del Lago and the Charraliza being the most famous.
