This site, 120 km from Guanajuato, is perfectly integrated into the topography of this southern part of the Sierra Penjamó. Located at the crossroads of many pre-Hispanic routes, it probably received a number of distinct architectural and ornamental influences, perhaps indicating the coexistence of populations of diverse origins. The apogee of the city took place between 450 and 700 AD (or between 600 and 900 according to some sources). The city's heyday was between 450 and 700 AD (or 600-900 AD according to experts), a period that also corresponds to the highest density of occupation in the region. The city was later burnt down, destroyed and desecrated, and was used as a place of worship to honour the memory of the ancestors.
