Legend has it that, in order to escape from the hunters, a deer from the coastal pinewoods knelt before Saint Bassano, bishop of Lodi. This is the origin of the name of Cervia and of its emblem, which represents a kneeling golden deer. Another symbol of the city is the Torre San Michele, built in the 17th century to protect the city and its white gold, salt, from pirate attacks. The history of Cervia has always been linked to that of the salt mines, whose exploitation and trade date back to the Etruscans. Its historical center offers some sites of great historical interest. In the summer, the blue sea, the beaches and the pinewoods attract vacationers.
