With its preserved historical center and its ancient houses, Bagnacavallo is a small architectural jewel. Its singular name, "the horse's bath", comes from a thermal spring that would have cured the horse of the emperor Tiberius. The city is a pleasant stop on the road between Faenza and Ravenna. The historic center, rich in 17th and 18th century buildings, is centered around the medieval Piazza della Libertà. The vicolo degli Amori is a picturesque alley. Finally, the magnificent Piazza Nuova, built in the 18th century as a market for butchers and fishmongers, has a harmonious oval shape surrounded by porticoes.
