Tarana is a small town nestled in a picturesque valley 25 kilometers north of Oberon. It is crossed by the Main Western Railway, which includes a "historic" branch line towards Oberon: the Oberon-Tarana Heritage Railway. Although this almost deserted town is only a place of passage, the nature is very beautiful, especially with its green hills and Lake Lyell. The Tarana Road is an excellent alternative to the Great Western Highway for those wishing to travel to Bathurst. Shortly before Tarana, the Evans Crown Nature Reserve, a sacred site of the Aborigines, is worth a stop for its magnificent rounded rocks overlooking the hill.
