175 km west of Sydney and 55 km south of Lithgow, Oberon is the largest town near Jenolan Caves and Kanangra-Boyd National Park (28 km). Located at an elevation of 1,113 meters, snowfall in winter is frequent. From 1923 to 1979, Oberon was served by a railroad for the transportation of goods. Since 2005, the track has been maintained by volunteers as part of its historic past. The main activities in Oberon are agriculture and the wood industry, as the area is covered with pine forests. The wood processing plant can be seen at the northwest entrance to Oberon.
