This community has preserved its rustic character over the centuries. Every year, all the monuments of this small village receive special attention during the annual floralies. On this occasion, more than 10 000 visitors from all walks of life come to admire the 75 varieties of roses that decorate the houses. A visit is mostly worth the penalty between mid-June and mid-September. At the end of the th century, the father of the village, Father De Maître, invested all his wealth in the construction of a new church. The slightly exaggerated dimensions of the building are the hallmark of the Country cathedral. The priest did not, however, have the opportunity to see the end of construction work, as he drowned in a bulwark of his cure in 1910. Near the St. Ghent Church, the monument in honour of Briek Schotte, born in Kanegem, shows this Flandrien courageously dressed: the double champion of cycling is immortalized in his hometown by artist Jef Claerhout. The mill of Madame - Mevrouwmolen - in Kanegem, in the Ruiseleedsesteenweg, is a mill on the base, built in 1844. The mill has been out of use since 1945. Since 1974, it has been on the list of protected monuments.
