A natural municipality that works to protect the environment, Kappelen also has a very important heritage: Saint-Wolfgang chapel, the old Saint-Michel church, the Foehrlé house (1687), the old Hintere Muehle and Niedere Muehle mills, the old panel cross (18th century), the tomb of Paul Stintzi (Sundgau historian, 1898-1988), the new Saint-Michel church (1975) and the monument to the dead (sculpture by Charles Folk). Some finds from the Polished Stone Age, the Iron Age and the Gallic period testify to the permanence of the occupation of the site, the name of which is said to come from the Wolfgangskapelle, a small chapel located between Kappelen and Stetten.
