It's the smallest commune in the Haut-Rhin, but that doesn't detract from its beauty and charm. Once the seat of Alsace's largest Cistercian abbey, it still retains some of its remains, as well as the former country house of Abbé Delfis. It was St. Bernard who blessed the foundation stone and spring of the new abbey, which was to house twelve Belleval monks. Thanks to the unwavering determination of the monks and the trust placed in God by all, Lucelle remains, to this day, Lucis Cella, a cell of light, and never ceases to illuminate the memory of its greatness. If Europe is being built in Strasbourg, its soul is being forged in Lucelle.
