With a population of just under 2,000, the village of Kualapuu, in the middle of the countryside, could not be more peaceful. Since the Coffees of Hawaii coffee plantation closed in 2010 (online sales only), the area is even quieter, if not deserted. Tourists will enjoy visiting the R.W. Meyer Sugar Mill and Molokai Museum. Several macadamia nut farms also open their doors for visitors (open house with small store, donations welcome), ideal for meeting locals who are not choked by the influx of tourists and will be happy to talk with you.
