After crossing the River Porma on a magnificent 18-arch bridge dating back to Roman times, we enter Puente Villarente, a village of about 240 inhabitants where you can stock up on provisions before continuing on to Leon. In fact, the village itself is hardly more than a stopover for supplies. While many of the surrounding towns have an almost medieval atmosphere, Villarente seems to have definitely opted for modernity and commercial development. You will find bars, a grocery store, a bakery and a pharmacy, but also a number of small stores that keep the village alive.
