This municipality of 250 inhabitants gives its name to the valley of Roncal, punctuated by typical Pyrenean villages. It is the birthplace of the famous tenor Julián Gayarre, whose birthplace has been turned into a museum, and in whose honor a magnificent mausoleum by Mariano Benlliure has been erected in the municipal cemetery. In terms of architectural heritage, in the center of the town there is also the Church of San Esteban, a 16th century building in the Gothic-Renaissance style, as well as some old stately homes. Roncal is also famous for its sheep's milk cheeses, protected by the Queso de Roncal Denomination of Origin.
