A visit to the monastery of San Salvador de Leyre, located at the end of a winding road that climbs from the village of Yesa, is a must. Among the other outstanding architectural elements are the ruins of a stone bridge spanning the Aragon River. Although it officially dates from the 12th century, some of the stones that form the foundations of the building are from the Roman period. The bridge of the Roncalais played an important role in the battle between the inhabitants of the valley and the Arab armies during the Reconquista. This small town of 300 inhabitants also attracts lovers of hiking and water sports with its artificial lake.
