The place is already mentioned in the Bible under the name Ophni. During the Roman and Byzantine period, an important city developed in this area on the road between Nablus and Jerusalem. Today, Jifna is a charming village with 2 000 inhabitants, mostly Christians, located 8 km north of Ramallah. There are several churches, the remains of two small fortresses, as well as numerous restaurants and cafés. There is a apricot festival in May. Many of the wealthy Palestinians come there on the weekend.
