Ma'ale Adumim is an Israeli settlement located 14 kilometers east of Jerusalem. Founded in 1975, it has had city status since 1991. In the center, the ruins of an imposing Byzantine monastery, the Martyrius Monastery, have been discovered. Its mosaics are among the most impressive in the region west of the Jordan. In the industrial zone of Ma'aleh Adumim is a second Byzantine monastery, the Euthymius Lavra, or St. Euthymius Monastery. On the way to the Dead Sea, it's worth taking the time to stop off at The Museum of the Good Samaritan, a beautiful museum dedicated to the art of mosaics in a former caravanserai.
