As-Salt is a city of nearly 100,000 inhabitants located 35 km northwest of Amman. It stretches across three hilltops, overlooking orchards and vineyards. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2021 for its alignments of beit, splendid yellow sandstone buildings dating back to the Ottoman period. The city also houses the ruins of an ancient Ayyubid fortress from the 13th century as well as a small archaeological museum of interest. Ancient Roman tombs lie at the exit of the city.
