Wadi Sir (or Wadi Al Seer) literally means "the valley of orchards". It was also the name of a queen who ruled the area in prehistoric times. Now fully integrated into the capital city of Amman, the suburb also encompasses the former village of Swefieh, the new posh suburb to the west of Amman. Wadi Sir was once a village populated by Circassians, Muslim immigrants from Causase in the late 19th century. It is located in the heart of a fertile valley that was then suitable for agriculture. It has some interesting remains, and can be the object of a stopover on the road to Iraq Al Amir.
