Ten kilometers from Umm Qais, just across the border from Syria, are the hot springs of Al-Himma, known since Roman times for their therapeutic properties. They are located in the village of Mukheiba where, thanks to the Yarmouk River, palm and banana trees grow. The scenic road to the village is well worth the detour if you are driving. There are a few hotels and resorts in the village which can be a nice stopover if you plan to spend a night near Umm Qais. Don't forget your passport as there is a checkpoint due to the proximity of the Syrian and Israeli borders.
