The Arab village of Abu Gosh lies on a hillside beside the road between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, in a beautiful rolling landscape. Home to some 5,500 Muslim and Christian Arabs, this village has been occupied for 6,000 years and has long been likened to the biblical settlement of Kiryat Yearim. According to the Bible, it was here that the Ark of the Covenant was stored for 20 years, in the house of Aminadav, after being returned by the Philistines during the reign of King David. There are two churches worth a visit: Notre-Dame-de-l'Arche-d'Alliance and the Crusaders' Church, now the church of the Abbey of Sainte-Marie-de-la-Résurrection.
