Located between Saint-Pierre and the Saint-Étienne River, the Pierrefonds neighbourhood, a popular housing area, was formed around the eponymous sugar factory. Pierrefonds allows access to L'Entre-Deux and Ouaki via the D26 and, above all, it is home to the international airport, open since 1998, from which tourist flights to the island in microlight and helicopter, but also flights to Madagascar or Mauritius, also depart. In recent years, a major development plan for the area around the airport has been implemented, but there are still wild areas, including the Pointe du Diable, ideal for a walk at the end of the day.
