Welcome to Thassos!Small town of about 4,000 inhabitants and capital of the island, Limenas was founded by the Greeks of Paros around 680 B.C. and conceals a particularly rich ancient history, which one discovers in the magnificent archaeological museum, set back from the quiet old port. You can wander among the touching open-air archaeological sites, inland or on the heights of the Acropolis, to relive this thousand-year-old history. The old port is flanked by a 19th century building in very good condition, the Kalogeriko, where temporary exhibitions are sometimes held. Beyond, the beautiful beach continues to the promontory of the old shipyard from where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset. The modern city, between the new port and the lively marina, is less interesting: either very residential and not very friendly on the port side, or very touristy and crowded in season on the marina side, it is better to be satisfied with the ancient sites and the old port before leaving!
