Chora, also called Samothraki, is the capital of the island. It is located inland, on the heights, as often in these islands long subjected to the incursions of various pirates and invaders. It is built in an amphitheater, on a slope of mountain defended by a Byzantine fortress, passed to the hands of the Genoese. Today, it is a quiet and pretty village, 5 km from Kamariotissa, where you can stroll between traditional houses with red tile roofs. In the evening, the little town comes alive around the central square which offers a sublime view. One comes here for its cafes and taverns on the terrace, in the cool evening.
