It is the largest Turkish island facing the western part of the Gelibolu peninsula in the Aegean Sea. Pine forests, olive trees, beaches and traditional villages make it a pleasant place to visit. To reach it, cross Çanakkale (departure at 5pm, return from Gökçeada at 8am) or Kabatepe (2 to 4 crossings per day). Most travelers head north to the seaside resort of Kaleköy, which is accessible by dolmuş. But the villages of Gökçeada, Zetinli, Tepeköy or Dereköy are very interesting as well and there are several pensions. Deserted and wilder beaches in the south of the island (Aydıncık, Kapıkaya) difficult to access.
