In the heart of the Rhodopes, Dospat, on the edge of the beautiful reservoir of the same name, is a small and peaceful mountain town, mostly populated by Pomaques, Bulgarian speakers and Muslims. They come to enjoy the lake and the surrounding nature, hilly and wooded. The Pomaques villages, which live especially from the culture of tobacco, are scattered in the surrounding mountain, very far from the modern world. The rare inhabitants live there without comfort but in a certain autarky. A wild road, lined with fountains of spring water and pretty shelters to picnic, connects Dospat and Batak. On both sides, marked paths go into the forest.
