A small town 40 km north of Turin, Agliè has beautiful old arcades that line its main central street up to the esplanade where the castle stands, one of the royal residences listed as a world heritage site by Unesco. Its vast park has miles of paths dotted with fountains, sculptures, and century-old trees. The church of Santa Marta, dating from 1760, is a jewel of baroque art. The Pro Loco Agliè association, which runs the tourist office in Piazza del Castello, organises guided tours of the town. On its website (www-prolocoaglie-it), there are short walk cards to download.
