A dynamic industrial town, Biella is an important centre for the international wool market, whose tradition dates back to Roman times. The city's strengths lie in its medieval town of Piazzo, linked to Piano, the more modern historic quarter, by a funicular railway that offers a beautiful view of the mountains. Biella is also famous for its production of Menabrea beer, one of the best in Italy, whose factory is located in the town center, as is a dedicated museum. Nearby, the Parco Burcina - Felice Piacenza Nature Reserve is famous for its rhododendrons, which bloom in May and June.
