Sinquerim beach, with its luxury hotels and tourists, lies on a peninsula with a rocky cliff at the top of which stands Fort Aguada. The beach is beautiful and boasts a number of restaurants. The well-preserved fort was built by the Portuguese in 1612 as protection against Dutch and Maratha incursions. It also boasts Asia's oldest lighthouse, built in 1864 and offering an astonishing view. To reach Sinquerim from Panjim, take the bus to Candolim, then catch one of the regular buses between Sinquerim and Baga. Cabs from Panjim cost Rs. 1,000.
