Locally pronounced "Mapsa". A major town in North Goa with a population of about 40,000 and a hub for travel from the state by car, bus or train (Thivim station is not far). The city is also the main supply point if you are staying in Anjuna or Chapora. If you are staying in Calangute or Baga, you can choose between Panjim or Mapusa as supply and service centers. Apart from the big market held on Fridays, the town offers very limited tourist interest. However, there are some very nice Goan houses in the old town.
