45 km south of Kerak is the trading town of Tafila. As an important commercial crossroads, it earns its income from the cultivation of olives, which the local farmers sell on the market stalls. The city, spread out on the side of several hills, was already known in ancient times for the extraction of minerals, including copper. Tafila was located on the strategic axis of fortifications designed by the Crusaders. Some remains of a fortress in the oldest part of the city are still visible, but without much interest. You will rather appreciate the authenticity of this small city where few tourists come.
