In Haute Chaine du Jura, the Jura Mountains are a series of peaks, including the Cret de la Neige (1717 m) to the highest altitude, and Colomby de Gex (1689 m), protected by Parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura, in the heart of the national Nature Reserve of Haut- Jura. These peaks form an anticline (convex fold) between the Valserine valley and the Geneva valley. It is crossed through the Faucille pass (1313 m). Although their altitudes cannot compete in any way with the high peaks of the Alps, these high ridges offer superb views of the Geneva region and the peaks of the Alps and is a good place for mountain skilling (Alpine and cross-country skiing, ski touring, snowshoeing, etc..). The Jura Mountains is also a mountain resort consists of two villages, Mijoux and Lelex, and combines four ski areas since 1999, Faucille and Lelex-Crozet for Alpine skiing and Vatallay for cross-country skiing, and recently the Menthières site adds to the offer of the station with an initiation ground for Alpine and Nordic skiing and snowshoe practice. The resort offers many mountain sports activities in every season. In summer, you can practice hiking, four seasons sledding, climbing, mountain biking (the gondola lift will help you reach the top), golf, adventure ... For the less energetic, a visit to the churches of Mijoux and Lélex is necessary and the discovery of Robert Bessard's murals in Mijoux that depict ancient trades. In Lelex, lapidary (cutter and polisher of fine and precious stones) and chantourneuse (practicing scroll saw wood) offer free demonstrations.
