The village of 900 inhabitants is sadly known as the place of the worst railway accident in the country: in February 1975, two trains crashed resulting in the death of 27 passengers. But it is also known for its pleasant environment that makes it a resort more than recommended: Tretten is located on the edge of Lake Losna and the Gudbrandsdalslågen River. The village is ancient, it would have been created in the 1200 s. The main activity of the village is agriculture and livestock (cattle and pigs).
