The port of Larvik is a community of municipalities of 46 000 inhabitants, situated at the mouth of the Numedalslagen. It has prospered thanks to the wood and iron industry, very developed on these banks. The city is also known for its mineral water Farris, distributed in all Norway. Its port is one of the gateways to Norway, as there are many maritime links with Denmark. Knut Hamsun wrote The Awakening of the Glebe here, which won him the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1920. Larvik's economy is based on agriculture, fishing and tourism, but Larvik is the largest producer of tomatoes and cucumbers in Norway!
