The name Fjällbacka comes from the mountain Vetteberget (which rises 76 meters above sea level and dominates the village). Fjället and berget both mean "the mountain", and it would be a shame not to go and see it up close. Located on the bay of Jorefjorden, opposite many inhabited islets, the small fishing and yachting harbor huddles against huge gray and bare rocks which, by leaving little room for new constructions, contribute to its preservation. At the top of these behemoths, the church built in stone blends in with the rock. The narrow streets leading down to the port are lined with wooden houses painted in blue, yellow and white with red and brown tile roofs. In front of the harbor, on the Ingrid Bergman square, stands a statue representing the bust of the actress who made this place her holiday resort (she had her second home on the small island of Dannholmen off the village; her house painted in green is still there and you can see it at sea by going to the islands of Väderöarna). It was off the coast of the village, in this particularly transparent water, that her ashes were scattered, as she had requested in her last will. Fjällbacka is also the birthplace of crime writer Camilla Läckberg, whose books are best-selling throughout Europe. Many of her novels are set in Fjällbacka and some of her characters are directly inspired by the inhabitants of the village she knows well. She also wrote the cookbook À table avec Camilla Läckberg, a culinary journey to Fjällbacka, with her friend, the chef Christian Hellberg.
