At the northeastern tip of the region, opposite Slovakia and, more specifically, its capital Bratislava, Kittsse, like the whole region, was Hungarian until the 1920s, and retains a certain Hungarian atmosphere. The town is home to a Baroque castle, remodeled by Prince Esterházy, and is a stopover on the route dedicated to this monarch. Also an interesting museum. The Kittsee church - Kirke zur Kreuzerhöhung - dating from 1669, is equally remarkable. Its crypt houses a Marian statue typical of the regional style, as well as rich marble tombs. Be sure to cross the border for a visit to Bratislava.
