Travel Guide Neusiedl Am See

In the north of Burgenland, on the shores of the big lake that bears its name, Neusiedl am See is the economic, cultural and tourist centre of the National Park region. This city is marked by its proximity to the Hungarian border. The establishment of a brickworks ushered in the industrial era for Neusiedl, just as the publication of the first weekly newspaper, the Neusiedler Wochenschrift, awakened it to cultural life. In addition to a few remains of its fortress (such as the Tabor) and an interesting "Pannonian" museum devoted to local characteristics, Neusiedl am See is home to the oldest pharmacy in the region at its original location.
