Ancient grey stone palaces, arches, steep staircases and a beautiful view of the sea can define Castellabate, perched at 356 m. This pretty medieval town takes its name from the castle which was originally called St. Angelo, and later "Abattis Castrum" (abbot's castle), in honour of its founder, the abbot Costabile Gentilcore, who laid the first stone in 1123. Next to it, at the entrance to the town, there is a lookout point overlooking the entire coast. Admire this panorama, with Santa Maria below and the island of Capri in the background. The village became famous in 2010 when it became the location for the film Benvenuti al Sud, the Italian version of Bienvenue chez les ch'tis.
