70 km south of Parma, Bardi is a medieval town with a magnificent fortress clinging to the top of a rocky peak. Bardi occupies a strategic position, at the confluence of several rivers and along the Via Francigena, the road used in the Middle Ages to reach Rome from northern Europe, nowadays mainly used by hikers. The surrounding nature offers countless opportunities for walks, and the torrents are a refreshing stopover in the summer. In the town's main square, the church of Santa Maria Addolorata houses the Pala di Bardi (1521), a painting of Parmesan cheese.
