This is where the Costa Vicentina Natural Park begins, or ends. Just a stone's throw from Lagos, Burgau is a small town of barely a thousand inhabitants that's well worth a detour to stroll through its narrow streets. It's a far cry from the big hotel complexes, with a reasonable number of restaurants and hotels. The beach is mainly devoted to small-scale fishing and is sheltered from the westerly winds by a large, rocky, arid hill. Everyone knows everyone else, and travelers who stay for a few days are quick to make themselves known to the locals. The more astute will agree to a boat trip with a fisherman.
