Not to be confused with its Lower Rhine namesake. Bouxwiller is a charming commune in the Alsatian Jura. Close to the Swiss border, its history is closely linked to that of the Franciscan monks of the Luppach convent. Did you know that the traditional headdress, with its large black bow, and the pretzel originated in Bouxwiller? Jacques le Barbu, Count of Bouxwiller, is said to have locked up the baker who mocked his beloved. To obtain his freedom, he had to bake a cake through which the sun could be seen three times... As you wander through the narrow streets, you'll discover a magnificent heritage.
