Travel Guide Tanjona Vohimena - Cap Sainte-Marie

Tanjona Vohimena - Mada's southernmost tip - is reached from Tsihombe by a relatively good track, from Faux-Cap (approx. 1h30 by 4x4) or from Lavanono (30 minutes by 4x4). The Tanjona Vohimena special reserve is home to sea and land turtles: the famous radiated tortoise, known as sokatra in Malagasy, and the spider tortoise, known as kapila. The radiated tortoise is Cap Sainte-Marie's true flagship. From the lighthouse, which dominates the horizon, you can see the watershed between the Indian Ocean and the Mozambique Channel.Swimming is not recommended: the beaches that stretch along the cliffs open out into the shark-filled ocean.
