Madagascar's first park, created in October 1958, the Parc national de la montagne d'Ambre is surprisingly green and tropical. It reaches an altitude of 1,475 m and covers an area of 18,200 ha (not including the special reserve and classified forest). Annual rainfall amounts to 3,500 mm, which is quite a lot (comparable to the Nord-Est region, near Maroantsetra). As an example, rainfall around Diego is 300 mm per year! Several crater lakes (five in all) and a few waterfalls are further proof, if proof were needed, of the abundance of water in the region and its telluric past. Please note: this park is different from most others in that many of its natural sites are accessible by car. Don't overdo it, to respect the walkers and the surrounding nature. Very interesting, however, for those who have difficulty getting around. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission: 55,000 Ar per day per adult, 25,000 Ar per child. Guide fees extra.
