This town, drowsy in the Amazonian heat, was the first city founded in the 16th century by the Spaniards in the Oriente. It was the first capital of the Amazon from 1868 to 1900, but today it has no major interest. Only the small church and the municipal park with exotic plants are worth a look. Only 3km from the town, the Jumandy caves are worth a visit. They are named after an ancient cacique who resisted the Spanish invaders. Of the three galleries, only one has been explored. A pretty little river runs through it and we reach a lake framed by stalactites and stalagmites
