Kyle of Lochalsh is mainly known for its access to Skye and for the famous 13th century castle: Eilean Donan Castle which stands not far from there. The village itself is not very interesting and it is better to stay on the island if it is your final destination, or on the shores of Loch Duich further east. The village of Plockton is more suited to your expectations of impressive landscapes - close to the Five Sisters of Kintail - and charming sites. The magnificent A87 road from Fort Augustus offers magnificent panoramas. It follows the Glen Shiel and Loch Cluanie, where the Jacobites were defeated by the English in 1719.
