On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 a.m., the city of Hiroshima entered history by disappearing. It was the target of the first of only two atomic bombs ever used against a civilian population. The city was completely destroyed, with only a few buildings and some suburbs remaining, far from the explosion. But the city rose from its ashes and shone again. A city with hundreds of bars and small restaurants, it is the most dynamic of the region, and a must for those who wish to pay their respects to the victims of the bomb in the Peace Park. Hiroshima is also an excellent stopover on the way to Miyajima, southern Honshu and Kyushu, and even Shikoku, which is accessible by ferry.
