Kōchi was a jōka-machi, a city under Tosa province castle. For centuries, the mountain was a natural obstacle, and only maritime routes were developed. The city expanded to the bottom of the bay of Urado, which enjoys a warm, humid climate, almost tropical. Kōchi had renewed interest with the construction of his castle by Katsutoyo Yamauchi (1546-1605). He received Tosa's credit, which he transmitted to his family until the Meiji Restoration.
