Tomo-no-ura is a picturesque harbor village with temples not well known by tourists. From the port, one can take a cruise to the inland sea and reach Hashiri or Sensui Island. The port used to receive embassies to the Yamato court. One of the local specialties is okagame homeishu, a rice alcohol. A whole day may be necessary to visit Onomichi and Tomo-no-Ura. There are frequent buses from Fukuyama station to Tomo-no-Ura in 30 minutes via the ridge road, which offers beautiful panoramic views of the inland sea. On the spot, you can visit the tourist office (9am-5pm).
