A U.S. military base town, Iwakuni is worth visiting for its five-arch bridge, the Kintai-kyō, one of the three most beautiful in Japan, and its rebuilt feudal castle (dismantled during the Tokugawa Shogunate following the edict of the one castle per region law). It is also known for its cormorant fishermen, a 300 years old tradition, and its production of fibers and paper pulp.
